Washy - Car Wash Weather

Washy Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Washy ("the App"), published by MintSoft ("we", "us"), uses, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. Washy has no user accounts and no servers of our own: we do not operate a backend that receives or stores your personal data. Most of what the App uses stays on your device.

1. Information the App Uses

  • Device location (only with your permission): the App reads your device's current location (latitude/longitude, at medium accuracy of roughly 100 m) while you are using it, in order to show the weather, air quality and car-wash score for where you are. The App does not access your location in the background.
  • City search text: if you choose a location by searching for a city instead of sharing your location, the text you type is sent to the geocoding service described below.
  • Data you create on your device: settings (language, units, favorite wash types, widget and notification preferences), your saved location, cached weather data, and your Wash Log entries (wash date, wash method, and — only if you enter them — cost and a note).
  • Advertising data (Google AdMob): your device's advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, only if you allow tracking; Advertising ID on Android), IP address, and basic device and ad-interaction information, used to serve and measure ads.
  • Purchase data (only if you make a purchase): an anonymous, randomly generated app user ID and the purchase/subscription receipt from the App Store or Google Play, processed by RevenueCat to confirm your entitlement. We never receive your name, email or payment card details.

We do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, or precise location history, and the App does not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.

2. How Location Is Used and Shared

  • Your coordinates are sent directly from your device to Open-Meteo (weather forecast and air-quality data) and to OpenStreetMap Nominatim (to turn coordinates into a place name, and to look up cities you search for). As with any internet request, these services also receive your IP address. See the Open-Meteo terms & privacy and the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
  • The coordinates are sent only to fetch that data; they are not sent to us and are not used for advertising by us.
  • The last location and recent weather results are cached in the App's storage on your device (not on our servers) so the App, its notifications and (on Android) its home-screen widget can work without asking for your location again.
  • You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings and use city search instead; all features except automatic "current location" keep working.

3. Notifications and Home-Screen Widget (Android)

  • Notifications are local: they are scheduled and generated on your device from cached forecast data (for example, a good wash day, rain, yellow dust or freezing alerts). No push-notification server or token is used. You can turn them off in the App's settings or in your device settings.
  • The home-screen widget is available on Android only in this version; the iOS app has no widget. On Android it reads the place name, weather summary and score that the App stores on your device. This data never leaves your device through the widget.
  • To keep notifications and (on Android) the widget up to date, the App may periodically refresh the forecast in the background using the cached location. It does not read your location in the background.

4. Advertising (Google AdMob)

  • The free version of the App shows ads served by Google AdMob. Google may use the advertising identifier and similar data to show personalized ads and to measure ad performance. See How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
  • iOS: the App asks for permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency before the IDFA can be used. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", the IDFA is not accessed and ads are not personalized using it.
  • EEA, UK and Switzerland (and other regions where required): the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to ask for your consent before personalized ads are shown. If you do not consent, only non-personalized ads (based on context such as the app content, not your profile) are served, or ads are not requested at all. You can change your choice at any time from the privacy options in the App's settings.
  • You can also limit ad tracking at the device level: iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking; Android Settings › Google › Ads (reset or delete Advertising ID).

5. In-App Purchases

If you buy a purchase or subscription, payment is handled entirely by Apple App Store or Google Play under their terms. RevenueCat, Inc. processes the anonymous app user ID and receipt on our behalf to validate the purchase and restore it across reinstalls. See the RevenueCat privacy policy.

6. Where Your Data Is Stored and How Long

  • Settings, favorites, notification preferences, cached weather and your Wash Log are stored in the App's storage on your device (app storage/shared preferences), not on our servers. We cannot see or recover them.
  • Device backups: if you have turned on your device's own backup (Google backup on Android, iCloud or computer backup on iOS), the operating system may include this app data — including your saved location and Wash Log — in your personal backup with Google or Apple, and restore it when you reinstall the App or set up a new device. That backup is controlled by you and handled by Google or Apple under their terms; we have no access to it. You can turn it off or delete it in your device or account settings (Android: Settings › Google › Backup; iOS: Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage).
  • They are kept until you delete them: use Settings › Reset data in the App to erase them, delete individual Wash Log entries, or uninstall the App, which removes them from the device. A copy in a device backup you enabled remains until you delete that backup or it is replaced.
  • Data received by third parties (Open-Meteo, OpenStreetMap, Google, RevenueCat, Apple/Google) is retained according to their own policies linked above.

7. Sale and Sharing of Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for any purpose other than those described above. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), the use of advertising identifiers for personalized ads by Google may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising; you can opt out using the device-level controls in Section 4.

8. International Transfers

The services above may process data on servers outside your country (for example in the European Union or the United States). These providers apply their own safeguards, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.

9. Legal Bases (EEA/UK users)

  • Location-based weather: your consent (device permission) and our legitimate interest in providing the features you request.
  • Personalized advertising: your consent collected through the UMP form. Non-personalized ads: our legitimate interest in funding a free app.
  • Purchases: performance of a contract.

10. Your Rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and the Korean Personal Information Protection Act), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal information, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority. Because we hold no personal data on our own servers, most rights can be exercised directly in the App or device (revoke permissions, change ad consent, reset data, uninstall). For data held by the third parties above, you may contact them directly or ask us to help. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

11. Security

All network requests made by the App use encrypted HTTPS connections. On-device data is protected by your operating system's app sandbox.

12. Children

Washy is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will help remove it.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when the App changes. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date, and significant changes will be announced in the App.
