GentleDrive Privacy Policy

Effective: October 28, 2026 · Last updated: October 28, 2026 (lifetime unlock only — free trial discontinued; banner, interstitial and rewarded ads)

GentleDrive ("the App") is made by Mint-Soft. This policy explains what stays on your phone, what leaves it, and why. In short: there is no GentleDrive account and no GentleDrive server. Your drives, routes, parking spots and photos stay on your device. If you have not bought the lifetime unlock, the App shows Google AdMob banner ads on a few non-driving screens (section 3); your drive, location and child data are never shared with advertisers.

1. What stays on your device (we never receive it)

  • Drive data: motion sensor readings (accelerometer and gyroscope) while a drive is recording, the comfort timeline, scores, trends and the child or passenger profiles you create.
  • Location (precise, optional): used only if you allow it, and only while a drive you started is recording — including when the screen is off or another app is in front. A notification is shown for the whole recording and you can stop it at any time. Location is used for four things:
    1. drawing the route of each drive on the map;
    2. finding places that felt rough on several drives (repeat rough spots);
    3. pinning where you parked when a drive ends;
    4. spotting long high-speed stretches for the Safety summary (from GPS speed).
    The App does not use location in the background when no drive is recording and does not ask for "Always" access. Comfort scores and the timeline work without location.
  • Parking photos and notes: a photo you take of your parking spot is kept in the App's private storage, not in your photo library.
  • App state: the App no longer offers a free trial; any trial date stored by an earlier version is deleted from your device when you update. How many rewarded unlocks you used today is kept on your device. Whether you have been asked for a review and which update you have seen are also kept on your device.

Routes, parking pins and parking photos are stored in a folder that is excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer and from iCloud/iTunes device backups. They are not included in data exports, share cards or the local Wi-Fi dashboard. You can erase everything in Settings > Data, and uninstalling the App removes it.

2. What leaves your device

  • Map tiles — OpenFreeMap: to draw a map, the App downloads map tiles and fonts from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org, OpenStreetMap data). Each request names the map tiles of the area on screen, so it reveals the approximate area you are viewing (for example, a recorded route), together with your IP address as with any internet request. No account, key, cookie or identifier is sent, and your route itself is not sent. According to OpenFreeMap's policy, its server logs are deleted after 7 days. Maps are shown only for drives that have a recorded route.
  • Crash and error reports — Sentry: when the App crashes or hits an error, a report with the error, stack trace, app version, device model and OS version is sent to Sentry (United States). Before sending, the App removes coordinates, addresses and location fields from the report, does not attach personal data, and Sentry is configured not to store IP addresses. Reports are kept for up to 90 days and used only to fix bugs.
  • Purchases — Apple, Google and RevenueCat: Apple or Google process payments. RevenueCat (United States) receives the product, transaction status and an anonymous app user ID to unlock Pro and restore purchases. We never see card details.
  • Advertising — Google AdMob: only if you have not bought the lifetime unlock. See section 3.
  • Updates and reviews — App Store and Google Play: the "Check for updates" row and the occasional review prompt use the stores' own services (Google Play In-App Updates and In-App Review, the App Store review prompt, and an App Store version lookup for this App). These requests concern the App's version only; the App adds no drive, location or personal data to them. The review prompt is shown by your phone's system at most once per app version and does not tell us whether or how you rated the App.

We do not sell personal data. The only data used for advertising is what Google's ad SDK itself collects, as described in section 3.

3. Advertising

  • Where ads appear: if you have not bought the lifetime unlock, the App shows Google AdMob banner ads, labelled "Ad", on the Home screen, in the trip list and in Settings — and only after you have finished setup and recorded your first drive. It may also show one full-screen (interstitial) ad after you finish sharing a drive or exporting data (at most a few per session, never while a drive is recording, right after a drive or on drive results), and a rewarded video ad only when you choose "Watch an ad to use it once" on a locked Pro item (up to 5 a day). There are no ads while a drive is recording, on drive results, on maps, on the purchase screen, in notifications or in picture-in-picture. Ads are limited to general-audience (G) content, and sensitive ad categories are blocked.
  • What Google receives: to show, limit and measure ads and to prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects device and app information, your IP address (from which an approximate location can be inferred), ad interactions and, where allowed (see below), the advertising identifier. Google processes this under its own policy: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
  • Your consent:
    • iPhone and iPad: the App asks once, after setup, whether it may track (App Tracking Transparency). The advertising identifier (IDFA) is used only if you choose "Allow". If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", ads are shown without the IDFA and without tracking you across other companies' apps and websites.
    • European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland: Google's consent message is shown before any ad. Personalized ads and use of the advertising identifier happen only with your consent; if you decline, only non-personalized or limited ads are shown.
    • Android in other regions: Google may use the Android advertising ID for ad personalization and measurement unless you delete or reset it or opt out in your Android settings, in which case ads are non-personalized.
  • Never used for ads: your drives, routes, location, parking spots and photos, comfort scores, and child or passenger profiles are never sent to Google or any other ad partner and are never used for advertising or tracking. The App does not tell the ad SDK your location.
  • How to opt out:
    • In the App: Settings > Ad Privacy Options (shown in regions where Google's consent message applies) lets you review or change your choice at any time.
    • iPhone and iPad: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking — turn tracking off for GentleDrive or for all apps.
    • Android: Settings > Google > Ads (or Settings > Privacy > Ads) — delete or reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalization.
    • Remove ads completely: buy the one-time lifetime unlock. After purchase (or restore), no ads are shown, the ad SDK is not started and the tracking question is not asked.

4. Things you choose to send

  • Navigation handoff: when you tap a navigation app (for example, to walk back to your parked car), the App opens that app with the destination's coordinates. If no navigation app is installed, Google Maps opens in your browser with the destination. That app or website then handles the data under its own policy.
  • Export and share: CSV or backup files you export and trip cards you share go where you send them. They contain drive summaries and scores, never routes, maps or addresses.
  • Local Wi-Fi dashboard: if you turn it on, drive summaries are served only to devices on your own Wi-Fi network, without location.

5. Permissions

  • Motion: measuring comfort during a drive.
  • Location (while using the App): the four uses in section 1, only while recording. Optional.
  • Camera: only when you add a parking photo.
  • Notifications: the recording notification, parking timer and optional reminders.
  • Tracking (iPhone and iPad, App Tracking Transparency): only for ads, as described in section 3. Optional.
  • Advertising ID (Android): used by the Google ad SDK as described in section 3.

6. Children

The App is for parents and other drivers. Child or passenger profiles are nicknames you create; they stay on your device and are never shared with ad partners. The App is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect children's personal information.

7. Your rights

Because your drive and location data never leave your device, you control them directly (Settings > Data, or uninstall). Ad choices can be changed at any time as described in section 3. For crash reports or purchase records, or for any privacy request (access, correction, deletion, objection), email us; we reply within 30 days. Residents of the EEA/UK, California and the Republic of Korea have these rights under GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and PIPA. Our legal bases are performance of the service you request (purchases, maps), legitimate interest in keeping the App stable (crash reports), and, where required, your consent (personalized ads).

8. Security and transfers

All network requests use HTTPS. Sentry, RevenueCat and Google process data in the United States and other countries under their own safeguards.

9. Changes

We post changes on this page and update the dates above. Material changes are announced in the App or its release notes.
